When you need Dutch basic Health Insurance 

If you are working or living in The Netherlands then you are obligated to have a Dutch Health Insurance.

When you are registered in the Netherlands you have 4 months to apply the insurance. The startdata will be day you registered in the Netherlands. The reason for this  that you are obligated to have a health insurance  you can’t be uninsured. It’s mean that you pay the premium since the day you registered yourself by the municipal (Gemeentelijke basis administratie)

What covers the basic health insurance

The coverage of the basic health insurance is set bij the dutch government and coverage is the same at all the different health insurance companies.

  • Hospital admission
  • General practitioner medical consults
  • Medical aids
  • Treatment by medical specialist
  • Emergency treatments abroad
  • Maternity care
  • Obstetric
  • Transport with ambulance
  • Dental Care until the age of 18 years
Children are standard covered under the policy till 18 years.

Good to have extra health insurance

You can also opt for extra health insurance these optional insurance plans may cover a wide range of extras, such as physiotherapy, acupuncture, homeopathy, vaccinations, pedicure, orthodontics and dental care for adults.
