Liability Insurance

In the Netherlands, many people take out a so-called ‘Aansprakelijkheidsverzekering’ (Personal Liability Insurance). This insurance protects a person or entity from claims initiated by another party. Although there are people in the Netherlands who think this is a compulsory insurance, it is NOT. If your rent a house  it’s mandatory in most rental agreements to have a liability insurance.

You are insured for things such as:

  • Damage to someone else or their possessions
  • Damage or loss as a result of a favour to a friend (up to €25,000)
  • Damage or loss caused by a visitor (if your visitor does not have any insurance)
  • Damage or loss caused by activities carried out by your personnel (for example your cleaner)
  • Damage or loss caused by your pet
